About Subterranean Termites

Subterranean termites are one of the most destructive pests in the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane areas. They live in underground colonies that can contain millions of individuals, feeding on wood and other cellulose-based materials. A termite colony is made up of three groups. Reproductives — the queen and king — are responsible for growing the colony. The queen can lay thousands of eggs per day. Workers are the most numerous and are responsible for building the nest, foraging for food and caring for the young. Soldiers defend the colony with their large, powerful jaws.
